I Built My Career by Learning How the Whole Business Works

I entered the real estate data industry in 2007 as a Customer Service Associate. From there, I moved into data operations, data sales/licensing, management, product, business development, operations, and strategy.

That progression gave me the opportunity to learn the business from the ground up — first understanding what customers needed and where they struggled, then learning how the data was sourced and managed, how it could be licensed and used, and ultimately how data solutions could create value for customers and generate revenue for the business.

That experience shapes how I consult today. I do not look at a problem through only a product, sales, operations, or data lens. I look at how the pieces connect.

Different Chapters. Different Lessons.

  1. Learning the industry from the customer up

    RealtyTrac / ATTOM

Customer Service Associate → Data Operations Analyst → Data Licensing Representative → Data Licensing Manager → National Data Solutions Manager → Director of National Data Solutions

Starting in customer support gave me direct exposure to what customers needed, where they struggled, and how data translated into real-world use. I moved into data operations, then data sales/licensing, management, and ultimately leadership of national data solutions.

Along the way, I helped build a data division that became central to the company's evolution into what is now ATTOM Data Solutions. I designed, sold, and supported products while learning the business from multiple perspectives.

  2. Recruited to help rebuild a data business

    First American — Data Solutions

    Director of Data Solutions

After the non-compete period associated with the CoreLogic separation ended, I was recruited to First American to help rebuild data licensing and data solutions capabilities.

The work went beyond licensing data. I helped customers understand how to productize it and turn it into useful insights and services of their own.

    • Top-producing licensing and data solutions representative
    • Achieved 120% of goal
    • Helped establish a profitable new business capability
    • High-profile customers contributed approximately $1.8M ARR in the first year
    • Helped create customer documentation that improved support and sales efficiency
    • Conceptualized and helped productize new datasets, generating approximately $1.2M ARR in their first year
    • Aided the creation and productization of Flipper File and Master Address
  3. Joining early and helping scale

    PropStream

VP, Strategic Operations & Business Development → VP, Product & Strategy

I joined as the 10th employee. My role evolved from VP of Strategic Operations & Business Development to VP of Product & Strategy as the business grew.

I worked across data-sourcing and utilization strategy, product development, operations, CRM and marketing automation, compliance, and company-wide industry education. That experience gave me a front-row view of what it takes to scale a data-driven PropTech business while keeping product, data, operations, customers, and economics aligned.

The business scaled from approximately $1.2M ARR to $66M ARR and was ultimately acquired for $175M by a publicly traded company.

    • Directly drove data contract negotiations
    • Expanded access to data and reduced data costs
    • Identified and evaluated new vendors
    • Designed multi-source prioritization logic, improving coverage, currency, and accuracy
    • Helped redesign and enhance the product, and created new features and capabilities
    • Company-wide SME training on industry, competitors, differentiators, and process
    • CRM migration from Infusionsoft to HubSpot
    • Marketing automation strategy, and strategic guidance on content and CTAs
    • Built compliance operations, including data-access controls and investigation, suspension, and reactivation processes
    • TCPA, DNC, CCPA and related compliance operations
  4. Product and data strategy inside a bootstrapped, founder-led business

    • New business and revenue stream, built from 0→1
    • MVP launched in approximately eight months
    • Four-person team
  6. Transformation and turnaround

  7. Today

    Xome / Rocket

Kept deliberately high-level. Current projects, product concepts, vendor identities, strategies, and non-public information stay confidential.

How I work

I Work Alongside the Team

I bring context, clarity and recommendations while trusting the specialists around me for their expertise.

Give Context. Trust Expertise.
I want people to understand where we are going, why, and how their work connects to the bigger outcome.
Clear Recommendations.
I lay out the details, tradeoffs and what I recommend. Leadership owns the final business decision.
Own It. Learn. Adapt.
If a recommendation does not produce the expected outcome, I own it, learn from it and collaborate on the next path.
Success Is a Team Outcome.
The teams bring the work to life. I am there to provide expertise, structure, direction and support along the way.
Built for Your Business.
Client strategies, requirements, workflows and documentation are built from the ground up and remain confidential to that engagement.
Leave the Team Stronger.
My goal is clear documentation, internal knowledge and a handoff that allows the team to continue successfully without dependence on me.

Outside the Work

I am based in Orange County, California, where I live with my wife and son.

Outside work, family time is usually centered around experiences together — Disneyland, LEGO, travel, and finding great food.

Mike Hambright asked how investors get more out of the data they already buy. The answer runs thirty-one minutes and includes the part most data vendors leave out: public records are the foundation of the entire industry, and they are not good. Jump straight to a moment, or watch it in full.

Prior to this, my favorite job was bartending — mixing and matching things that people enjoyed. I love to make a drink that doesn't exist and give it to somebody and have them like it.
He says it about bartending, then spends the next thirty seconds describing the same instinct applied to a county record.
